Bath and Bristol - the most productive digital cluster in the UK
The digital tech economy is powering UK growth. Employment is rising faster than the rest of the economy, and digital tech industries have seen fast growth in turnover and GVA.
Over 60,000 people are employed in the digital tech industry in Bath and Bristol, with firms such as Aardman, Oracle, IBM, IPL, AMDOCS, Sony and Hewlett Packard attracting and developing talent.
The cluster has seen astounding growth in turnover - according to the report up 53% from 2010 to 2014 - and is rated by the report as the most productive digital cluster in the UK.
The report, which looks at 16 sectors (including app and software development, e-commerce, edtech, cloud computing, gaming, telecommunications and hardware), particularly cites the Bath and Bristol cluster's local networks - such as TechSPARK - as a key factor in its success, as well as hubs such as the University of Bath's Innovation Centre (part of SetSquared, recently rated as the world's top University incubator).
The Bath Digital Festival also continues to promote and celebrate the area's creative, connected and collaborative digital community.
