Bath: Celebrating Cycling
The City Celebrates
Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Council has organised a bicycle trail around the city, to encourage visitors and residents alike to explore Bath and celebrate the Tour of Britain stage finish.
Bicycles were painted red, white and blue by Julian House Bike Workshop and the Princes Trust, before being given free of charge to businesses to display to the public. The bicycles will be marked on a map that will lead readers on a treasure trail across the city to tick off as many as they can find. The bikes will be on display for 3 weeks from the 18th August.
All participating businesses will be featured on the Tour of Britain website.
Pushing the Pedals
Bath Film Festival is hosting a pedal-powered outdoor screening of The Jungle Book; Friday September 2nd will see visitors arrive at Springfield Park, Foxhill Meare Road, Bath from 7.15 to enjoy picnics and performances before the film starts. Audience members can join the pedalling to help power the projector and PA system, or simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. The Pizza Bike and the Split Screen Icecream Company will also be on hand should anyone need an energy boost!
BANES Council's Summer of Cycling is still going strong; the British Cycling Summer Series takes place at Odd Down Sports Grounds every Tuesday evening, with amateur competitive racing for men and women. Weekly coached paracycling events, also at Odd Down Sports Grounds, will be taking place on Wednesdays this August between 7-8pm.
Tour of Britain
The stage finish of the Tour of Britain Stage 5 will take place in Bath on Thursday 8th September.
At 3.30pm the cyclists should reach the Royal Avenue, where a Cycle Village will be set up for fans to congregate and enjoy the show. The Village will be open from 10am until 4pm, and giant screens will show the race live from 1pm. It will also be shown live on ITV4 and around the world!
If you are interested in running a concessions stand at the Cycle Village, or having a promotional space within the BATHNES Council marquee, please contact email email@example.com for more information.
