Bath Quays South Office to Go Ahead

10 Apr 2017

The first part of the Bath Quays mixed use scheme is underway.  Permission has now been granted for the prestigious office on Bath Quays South and the refurbishment of Newark Works to transform it into creative workspace studios.

Given the acute need for business space in the city, Bath Quays South is a great opportunity with 46,000 sq ft of Grade A office becoming available in early 2019, at the same time as the 40,000 sq ft of smaller studios for digital and creative businesses in Newark Works.

Bath Quays is at the heart of Bath’s creative future, within its historic industrial past.  It is located adjacent to the city’s retail centre and less than 5 minutes’ walk from Bath Spa railway station.   Providing a connection between the city and the river Avon, it was originally home to the iconic Stothert and Pitt Craneworks and a number of commercial warehouses trading along the quayside.

The Quays in the 21st century is the focus for the city’s Enterprise Zone, the location for a new central business district, housing contemporary companies, with an emphasis on Bath’s existing strengths in financial and professional services, digital and innovation.

The opportunity for a significant quantity of modern, high quality employment space to bring this overlooked site back to life has been long awaited by locals and businesses.

The comprehensive redevelopment will include residential apartments, a new pedestrian and cycling bridge linking Bath Quays South and Bath Quays North and a new riverside boulevard and parkland on the south facing side.  Enabling infrastructure works are well underway, the park will open during 2017, the bridge was granted permission in March 2017 and construction is due to commence shortly.

The large energy efficient office building has been designed to British Council of Offices Standards and will easily adapt to a number of potential occupiers.  Early discussions with regional and local businesses about their ongoing growth requirements are extremely positive.  Space will be available on a leasehold basis with the building suitable for single occupation for a prestigious headquarters building,  or split into approx. 10,000 sq foot floorplates.  The Penthouse has a generous rooftop terrace with the benefit of panoramic views across the beautiful Georgian city and is the most desirable area within the building.
