Cyber security events
Protect your business
Recent events have brought home to us all how important cyber security is. Research by the Federation of Small Businesses (2016) showed that around two thirds of small businesses have been victims of cyber attacks, costing an average of almost £3,000 per business.
These events - part of the Venturefest Bristol and Bath 2017 series - will provide valuable information to those unsure how best to protect their business.
27th June: The Anatomy of a Ransomware Attack
Hosted by: South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit, Avon & Somerset Police
Venue: Engine Shed
Format: 9am – 11am
Panel session and debate on Cyber Security the challenges and solutions
Description: Experts from the South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit will walk you through a real cyber attack that happened to a business in the south west recently. You will be taken on a journey, from a hacker choosing your business as a target through to the police investigation and potential arrest.
They will highlight ways in which you can identify the threat at an early stage, mitigate the impact from an attack and suggest the lessons that should be taken away to protect yourself and your business.
This is an excellent opportunity to understand just how cyber attacks happen and what you can do to protect yourself from becoming a victim too.
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout.
17th July: Social Engineering: See what the hacker sees
Hosted by: Avon & Somerset Police
Venue: Engine Shed
Format: 2pm – 4pm
Workshop. We all use social media, all have Facebook friends we don’t really know and all love to share photographs from the happiest moments of our lives. In this workshop you will become a hacker and learn how they would use your social media against you, to attack you and make you believe they are someone you can trust. You’ll never look at friend requests in the same way again!
