Focus on: Complete Control

21 Jun 2013

Tucked away on a small business estate in Corston, just outside of Bath, there exists a double BAFTA-winning firm developing engaging websites, apps and interactive content for some of the most famous children’s TV and publishing brands in the UK.

Complete Control was set up by local entrepreneur Glynn Hayward in 1999.  The company has since grown to 16 people, to include developers, games programmers, animators, and a design team.

Clients include the BBC, Nickelodeon, Penguin, and Cartoon Network, and the company’s portfolio includes games and other digital content for such loved brands as Charlie and Lola, Sarah and Duck, and The Lingo Show (which was commissioned as a TV show following Complete Control’s work on an interactive website for the brand).

Recent years have seen Complete Control being showered with awards and recognition.  The company has won two BAFTAs for its interactive work, and seen Glynn join the BAFTA committee for over 6 years.  In 2013 alone, the firm won “Best Digital Design Concept” for the World Book Day website, and was cited as “Bath’s Biggest Success Story” at the SPARKies Technology Awards (part of the Bath Digital Festival).

Increasing demand for engaging and cutting-edge interactive technology will drive Complete Control’s growth over the coming years.

“We need to take on more staff over the next couple of years”, says Glynn. “Frankly, we couldn’t be better located in terms of the local talent pool, with Bristol and Bath’s creative communities on our doorstep.  We recently won an employer award for our partnership work with Bath Spa University, which is helping us identify tomorrow’s innovators, and is helping to make sure students are equipped with the skills we need as a company.

“Being a local boy from Keynsham, I’m keen that we expand into premises locally when the time comes.  The old factory space on the forthcoming Somerdale site in Keynsham has real potential for creative firms – so we’re watching that development quite carefully!”
