LUX Restaurant Rewards App to Launch

2 Feb 2017

Bath University graduate James Courtney will be launching his innovative new restaurant rewards app LUX this February 9th, at just 22 years old.

The young CEO created the app after winning the Bath Business Plan competition 2 years in a row; the only student ever to have done so. “Winning for a second year running was very special,” says James, as it meant he could now see his dream become a reality. After securing a place on the Crowd10 scheme, a part time programme that prepares participants for a successful Crowdcube launch, LUX easily surpassed its goal of £80,000.

What is LUX?

LUX is a rewards scheme app for high quality, independent restaurants in Bath. Most restaurant reward schemes are discount based, leaving restaurants out of pocket for the chance to attract customers who may never come back for a full-priced meal. LUX aims to attract repeat spenders by offering reward points, which, once accumulated, can be spent on luxury purchases such as spa days or champagne atop the Shard. Alternatively, the points can be donated to a local charity of the diner’s choice.

How Does It Work?

LUX is funded by commission; customers enter their bill into the app to earn points, and LUX takes a percentage of that bill. However, LUX provides restaurateurs with a code to give to their loyal customers, so they can collect points for free. Therefore, restaurants are only paying for the new customers being driven to their establishment by the LUX app.

Keeping it local

LUX is ‘all about local’; James is determined to keep the app’s focus on the community that both he and his app were born and raised in. Promoting local independent restaurants is just the start; LUX has established connections with local charities, so that diners who decide to donate to a cause will be giving back to local organisations such as the RUH or Bath Cats & Dogs Home. LUX has even stayed local with its developers, the Bath based software company Rocketmakers.
