Business Support and Guidance Announced
Business Grants update
The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has announced that additional support will be available for businesses who have been impacted by the Omicron variant.
Recognising that the rise of the Omicron variant means some businesses are likely to struggle over the coming weeks, the government announced:
- businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors in England will be eligible for one-off grants of up to £6,000 per premises, plus more than £100 million discretionary funding will be made available for local authorities to support other businesses
- government will also cover the cost of Statutory Sick Pay for Covid-related absences for small and medium-sized employers across the UK
- £30 million further funding will be made available through the Culture Recovery Fund, enabling more cultural organisations in England to apply for support during the winter
Face covering notice
From Friday 10 December face coverings will be required by law in most indoor public places and on public transport, including taxis. From Monday 13 December businesses are also being asked to allow their staff to work from home where possible, and from Wednesday 15 December certain venues and events will be required by law to check that all visitors aged 18 years or over have a valid NHS COVID Pass, or an alternative proof of a negative test result, such as an email or text proof, before allowing entry.
