Employers offered support to get involved in Dry January
Dry January is a great opportunity for employers to boost productivity, improve employee wellbeing and bring teams together. There are many benefits to going dry for a month including improved sleep, weight loss and having more energy. Benefits in the workplace include better performance, reduced sick days and lost productivity from alcohol – estimated to cost business £7.3bn each year – and the formation of social ties within teams that aren’t based just around drinking. Research has also shown that Dry January helps people to drink more healthily year-round, with over 70% of participants still drinking less riskily six months later.
The Public Health team at Bath & North East Somerset Council is able to support local employers in promoting Dry January – promotional resources including alcohol awareness scratchcards are available on request, as well as an offer to help run a ‘sign-up station’ in reception or communal areas – to arrange please get in touch directly with the team on 01225 394293 or email owen_wood@BATHNES.gov.uk
