Storm Consultancy plan new forest outside Bath
Bath-based digital technology agency Storm Consultancy has announced its ambitious pledge to plant a brand new forest within a 15 mile radius of Bath, and is now seeking collaboration with the local business community to deliver the project on a larger scale.
As one of the company’s philanthropic schemes to celebrate its 10 year anniversary, Storm’s founders David Kelly and Adam Pope announced this campaign last week at their anniversary party at The Ivy.
“As a team we are very passionate about being more environmentally friendly,” David explains. “However, in addition to making the standard small changes to our business that all organisations should be thinking about, we wanted to be ambitious and do something on a larger scale. We spoke to our staff and the idea to plant a forest in the local area was voiced, and we’ve decided to commit to making that happen.
““The launch of our project happened to coincide with the announcement of a new TED Countdown initiative by Chris Anderson at last week’s Creative Bath event. Something that truly resonated throughout Chris’ talk was him advocating for action not words.”
Storm has already pledged £25,000 to get the project off the ground in 2020, however, David and Adam are hoping that the region’s Tech, Digital and Creative communities will be inspired to help them make this an even more ambitious project.
In an update just announced today, a private funder has stepped forward and offered the project up to £100,000 in match funding.
David says: “We’re thrilled to have this match funding in place from a generous local donor so soon after launching the idea, and we’re hoping others will be inspired to join us and help us scale the project even further.
“We’ve increased our goal and hope to receive pledges totalling £100,000 (or more!) so that we can access all of the available match funding and create one of the biggest tree planting initiatives in B&NES. We’re truly committed to making a difference and would love for this to be a real collaborative effort.”
Storm has partnered with local Community Interest Company, EcoWild, specialists in enhancing relationships between people and the natural environment, to help them with the feasibility of the project and the sourcing of appropriate land. They are also working with advice from the West of England Nature Partnership and The Woodland Trust.
