Upgrades to broadband connectivity in and around Bath continue

3 Aug 2015

More premises in and around Bath now have the opportunity to connect to superfast broadband thanks to the Connecting Devon and Somerset programme.

Parts of the Chew Magna area near Bath are the latest areas to have local connectivity improved through the introduction of fibre broadband.  Areas of Midsomer Norton and West Harptree have also recently been upgraded.

The Connecting Devon and Somerset programme's objective is to bring broadband speeds of over 24Mbps to 90% of premises in the programme's area by the end of 2016 - with every premise within the programme area having a broadband speed of at least 2Mbps. Find out more about the programme here.

You can check whether connectivity in your postcode area is likely to be upgraded soon by visiting the postcode checker map on the Connecting in Devon and Somerset website.

A Digital Strategy for Bath and North East Somerset

The Connecting Devon and Somerset programme is one part of a wider programme of work to improve both fibre and wireless broadband infrastructure in Bath and North East Somerset.

New office developments planned for the city centre will be enabled with the fastest broadband speeds possible.

Bath and North East Somerset Council also recently launched a pilot scheme in Bath City Centre which offered free next generation wireless connectivity to traders and visitors at Bath Christmas Market.  Thousands of people used the service during the duration of the market.  Plans are in place to extend this work to the rest of Bath and eventually into rural areas of the District.
